Shipping & Moving between Malaysia and China

Malaysia to China

In recent years, more foreign professionals, students and retirees living in Malaysia have chosen to relocate to China for career assignments, further study or family life. Demand for international moving services from Malaysia to China continues to grow.

Seapoe Global Relocations has over ten years of experience in the international personal effects shipping market. We provide professional, one-stop door-to-door moving solutions from Malaysia to China for expatriate families, students and corporate assignees. Our services include ocean LCL and FCL shipping as well as air freight luggage courier options, covering Kuala Lumpur, Penang and other major Malaysian cities and surrounding areas. Unlike commercial freight consolidators, we clear goods strictly through the personal baggage channel. Complex item lists are accepted — clothing, shoes, cookware, decorations and handicrafts can all be declared. You do not need to provide material certificates or purchase receipts for every item. We also handle both ends of the move: packing and pickup at your origin address in Malaysia, plus delivery into your new home in China, rather than simply dropping cargo at a port. We prepared this guide to help you complete your cross-border relocation smoothly. It covers how to choose a shipping method, the documents required for customs clearance, prohibited items and key points to watch so your belongings arrive safely at your door.

Malaysia to China - China Customs Rules for Chinese Nationals Importing Personal Effects

This section applies only to Chinese passport holders returning to China. Foreign nationals relocating to China should skip ahead to the next section.

I. Claiming the RMB 5,000 Duty-Free Allowance

The RMB 5,000 duty-free allowance for returning baggage is a legal benefit granted by China Customs to every Chinese citizen, including students and visiting relatives. Customs rules require the individual to enter the country in person and complete clearance procedures within six months of arrival; otherwise the shipment cannot clear. When entering China, you must use the airport's manual inspection channel to obtain the "Declaration Form for Baggage Articles of Inbound/Outbound Passengers" (the unaccompanied baggage declaration form) and have it stamped by customs. Only then will you receive the RMB 5,000 duty-free allowance based on declared value. This allowance applies to used personal items and is shared between accompanied and unaccompanied baggage.

II. Required Documents for Customs Clearance

Prepare the following documents in advance to ensure smooth clearance. As of May 22, 2026, Beijing Customs strictly requires original passports for postal and personal effects clearance and no longer accepts copies or scans. We recommend clearing through Shanghai Port, where policies are more established. [Source: Seapoe business knowledge base]
